The fundamental Triad of Health
We live in an environment that challenges us health wise on a daily basis. If we imagine that our health can be represented by a triangle, then this stable structure is the foundation of good health. Each side represents a major component. I.e. STRUCTURAL, CHEMICAL, and EMOTIONAL. When we change any one of these components not only will our health be affected directly, but also the other two sides are affected in some way. This leads to dis-ease or lack of ease and balance within our bodies.
By using this model at Empowering Wellness Burleigh Heads we can help you to identify the underlying cause or causes of your health challenges, create a plan of how to correct them, and ultimately restore you to a state of wellness, and not merely mask or eliminate symptoms.
Let’s look at each component in more detail.
Structural
In this area, we are dealing primarily with the spine, the skeleton, and the muscular system. These are other connective tissues such as ligaments, tendons, fascia, cartilage, and of course, joints. All of these tissues have nerve endings to tell the brain what is happening in terms of movement, balance, strength and tension. Through this incredible network of nerves -94km of them- the body is kept in good tone and balance. The nervous system controls and coordinates every function in the body. Because it is delicate, the brain and spinal cord are protected by the skull and spinal canal. That is all great until there is excess stress put on these structures. This could be in the form of motor vehicle accidents, lifting awkwardly or doing exercises that are inappropriate, or most importantly, adopting a poor posture while sitting at work or in the car, playing video games, sitting in a classroom, and so on. Irritation to nerve structures causes an imbalance which leads to muscle tension, joint malfunction, and ultimately, pain.
These areas of malfunction we refer to as a subluxation. If left unaddressed over time they can lead to degenerative changes (arthritis) altered posture and can affect the other sides of the triad, chemical and emotional. Along with your Chiropractic adjustments you may be given corrective exercises to help balance and maintain good posture, tone your muscles and reduce or eliminate the nerve interference that you are experiencing.
Chemical
Our bodies carry out thousands of chemical reactions to nourish our cells and tissues, and remove toxins. So our systems can suffer through both deficiencies of vital nutrients as well as excesses. Just a deficiency of magnesium can lead to muscle cramps, poor nerve function, and digestive issues, just to name a few. Hormonal imbalances are another way in which our chemistry can be affected. These functions are directly controlled within the brain through the pituitary gland. Environmental stresses such as oestrogen mimicking substances can “throw a cat amongst the pigeons”, so to speak, for both men and women. Smoking robs our bodies of vital oxygen. Try running your car without oxygen!!
Emotional
For thousands of years, it has been understood the power of the mind as it relates to our health. We are emotional creatures and feeling emotions is normal and healthy. When we dwell on negative emotions it can not only lead to depression, but can affect our chemistry, weaken muscles related to specific organs, and ultimately distort our framework. We have all seen a sad or depressed posture. Using Kinesiology we can find the origin of these lingering emotional issues and help release the effects on our bodies. Clear the negatives and we naturally feel lighter, more buoyant and able to deal with day-to-day issues.
